WILMINGTON, Del.- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware (BGCD) launched the DELMARVA Power STEM Club on Wednesday.
According to the organization, thanks to a collaborative partnership with DELMARVA Power, which provided generous funding to support this initiative, over 2,500 children daily, and more than 20,000 children annually, across the BGCD's forty-five Delaware locations will have an opportunity to participate in activities focused on introducing and fostering interest in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Discovery Education is also a key partner in this initiative, having designed and developed the lesson plans and the exciting experiments that enhance each lesson. The focus on STEM related fields has been a recent focus of federal and state government, colleges and universities and corporations as STEM related jobs are expected to grow significantly over the next decade.
The DELMARVA Power STEM Club uses a rich combination of hands-on labs, engineering challenges and digital investigation to keep kids engaged and excited about the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Children will explore the subjects of energy and urban infrastructure by participating in modules created by Delmarva Power and Discovery Education. These modules are broken down into lessons that will provide afternoon groups with fun and exciting ways to prepare students for jobs of the future.
