Early 1900s Schoolhouse in Chesapeake Torn Down

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - An early 20th century schoolhouse in Chesapeake has been demolished.

Media outlets report that the former Great Bridge schoolhouse was torn down on Saturday.

The four-room structure was built around 1907. It hadn't been used since engineers determined in 2010 that it wasn't safe.

Last summer, school division officials said anyone wanting to preserve the building would have a year to come up with funding and a plan. The administration didn't receive any formal proposals to save the building.
