OCEAN CITY, Md.— Authorities say a West Ocean City man is facing burglary and related charges after he used an ax to break through the door of a neighbor's apartment.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office said that shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a building located on the 12800 block of Harbor Road in West Ocean City.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found a hole in the exterior door of a resident's apartment. After further investigation, deputies were informed that another resident of the apartment building had used an ax to commit the burglary.

James Bennis, 49, was arrested and charged with first-, third-, and fourth-degree burglary, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct. He was ordered held without bond in the Worcester County Jail.
