SLAUGHTER BEACH/MILFORD, Del. – The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve is closed for the winter, reopening Wednesday, April 1, 2015 for the busy spring and summer seasons.
The center is owned and operated by DNREC's Division of Fish and Wildlife.
This is the second year the DuPont Nature Center has closed due to budgetary considerations during the slower winter months when there is less public use of the center. The decision for seasonal closure of the center was made due to a reduction in available federal Sport Fish Restoration Funds, which help support maintenance, operations, staffing and programs the DuPont Nature Center, as well as the Aquatic Resources Education Center near Smyrna.
Federal Sport Fish Restoration Funds also support construction and maintenance of public boat ramps and fishing piers throughout the state, as well as a variety of the Division of Fish and Wildlife's Fisheries research, monitoring and management programs.
