WESTOVER, Md.– A frequent volunteer and former PTO president at Greenwood Elementary School in Princess Anne has been named to the state superintendent's Family Engagement Council.

Benita Rashaw is well-known for her involvement within the Somerset County school system. She won the Parent Involvement Matters Award for the district in 2014 and was recognized for the achievement at a state-level celebration in May.

The Parent Involvement Matters Award is an annual award for parents whose exemplary contributions to public education have led to improvements for Maryland's public school children, teachers, schools, programs and/or policies.

When she's not volunteering her time to Greenwood's various activities, Rashaw is a member of the superintendent's County Parent Advisory Committee and the associate director of Residence Life at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
