Motorcycle Crash Injures Two in Harrington

HARRINGTON, Del. – Troopers are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that sent two riders to the hospital Saturday night.

The collision happened around 7:35 p.m. on US-13 near Williamsville Road. Delaware State Police say Carl W. Miller, 55, of Marydel, was riding a motorcycle northbound in the right lane, and William E. Wooters, 62, of Felton, was operating a motorcycle directly behind him.

According to officers, as the two motorcycles approached Williamsville Road, a tan colored van turned onto US-13 northbound from Williamsville Road and began traveling up the shoulder of the roadway. Police say the van pulled into the right lane directly in front of Miller's motorcycle, causing him to brake suddenly. Wooters was unable to slow in time and struck the rear of Miller's motorcycle, ejecting both Wooters and his female passenger from the bike. Miller was able to bring his motorcycle to a controlled stop on the northbound shoulder. Police say the van continued northbound on US-13 without stopping.

According to Delaware State Police, Wooters and his wife, Mary Ann Wooters, 56, were not wearing helmets at the time of the collision. She was transported by EMS to Milford Memorial Hospital and admitted with undetermined injuries. William Wooters was later flown to Christiana Medical Center, where he was admitted with undetermined injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Miller and his 46-year-old female passenger were uninjured in the crash, police say.

Officers shut down US-13 northbound for approximately an hour and a half while they cleared and investigated the crash. No charges have been filed.
