Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police say they are continuing to investigate a series of thefts from cars that occurred over the weekend in Sussex County.

Troopers said 12 thefts from car happened at a dozen locations from Lincoln to Lewes.

Theresa Atkins, who lives in Sussex County, said she is a woman on the move. She has plenty of belongings in her, but is always sure to bring them wherever she may go.

"You can't leave anything in your car," Atkins said. "You're not safe anymore."

Police said that among items stolen from these cars included electronics, purses and cash. Most of the affected cars were parked in the victims' driveways.

Some residents like Lane Justice said could care less if their car doors are locked or not.

"I just feel like nothing is going to happen, so that's pretty much it," Justice said. "I may begin to lock my doors if this this a growing problem to keep my valuables."

Police are advising residents to take the following precautions:
  • Lock doors and roll up windows.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car.
  • Leave outdoor lights on.
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Troop 7 at (302) 644-5020 or by utilizing the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip Application available to download at: http://www.delaware.gov/apps/. ; Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via www.tipsubmit.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
