Delaware Girl Home Month After Vicious Dog Attack

NEWARK, Del. (AP)- An 8-year-old Delaware girl critically injured after being attacked by a pit bull in her home has been allowed to return home.

Emily Ruckle, the daughter of a Newark city councilman, has undergone nine surgeries since last month's attack, which nearly severed her arm. She was allowed to return home after surprising doctors by lifting her shoulder last week. That is 30 days ahead of schedule.

Her father, Newark Councilman Todd Ruckle, says the first thing Emily did after being released from the hospital was thank the Newark policemen who saved her life. Then she went to dinner at her favorite restaurant, Chick-fil-A, and was reunited with her beloved German shepherd, Kona.

Emily was attacked Sept. 27 by a pit bull belonging to her mother's ex-husband.
