Updated: Lipstick Message Leads to Arrest

Posted:

DOVER, Del. - Thursday afternoon, a 25-year old woman was saved from alleged kidnapping after leaving a message in lipstick in the bathroom of a Dover McDonalds. Dover police said that the woman was held against her will since October 23.

Brandon Turner of Rock Hall, Maryland was arrested approximately three hours after police were notified about the message. Police said that surveillance video contributed to the arrest, which was made at the nearby Dover Mall.

The message was left at the McDonalds located at 879 North DuPont Highway in Dover. Police told WBOC that the victim said she was kidnapped from a home in the area of North Little Creek Road, and brought to a home on Long Point Road, where she was duct taped to her bed, and raped multiple times.

Cpl. Mark Hoffman said that the victim had filed a no-contact order against Turner in August, following another incident.

"The large majority of the time," he said. "The no contact orders or the Protection From Abuse orders are successful. And the majority of the time the people who are being served with those orders comply with them and do not contact their victims. But as you alluded to - it can't physically protect you."

Turner now faces 12 counts of rape in the second degree, as well as one count of Kidnapping in the 2nd degree, one count of Receiving Stolen Property, and one count of Breach of Release for breaking the no-contact order.

"It's a very dangerous situation," Hoffman said. "And luckily she worked up the courage and had the opportunity to leave that note behind. And for somebody to come and see it. And that person who saw it was obviously smart enough to notify police right away and get her some help."

Turner is currently being held on $651,500 cash bond at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

New street signs are popping up in Dewey Beach, and some aren't happy about it.

These new directional signs, Delaware's Department of Transportation says, were implemented to prevent crashes along Route 1.

But some say it's done the opposite of helping and has created more confusion.
