Dover Police Searching for "Rat Burglar"

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (WBOC) - Dover PD is looking into a series of burglaries that all employed the same tactics. Investigators have dubbed the culprit - the "Rat Burglar."

Most recently, police says someone broke into Treadway Towers in downtown Dover between 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 and 7:24 a.m on Nov. 5.

According to a release, the suspect pried open a window to a second floor fire escape door. Then the suspect opened four interior doors, causing damage to all. The suspect got into offices and stole cash and money orders. Police said the suspect got into several offices by cutting holes through the drywall between them.

This is a list of affected businesses: 1st Capital Investment, Advantage Travel, Ancient Way Massage, Christopher Asay Massage, Colonial Investment, and Tranquil Spirit Massage and Spa.

Police said this was 6th incident like this being investigated. The "Rat Burglar" moniker comes from the suspect's system of cutting holes to enter buildings.

The other cases involved are: Melvin's Service Center (which DSP is handling), Maple Dale Country Club, Manlove Auto Parts, Woodmill Apartments Leasing Office and Mapleton Square Apartments.
