Del. State Trooper Arrested for Domestic Altercation

DOVER, Del.- A Delaware State Trooper has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident in Sussex County.

State Police announced the arrest of 39-year-old Andrel Martinez of Bridgeville.

Police arrested Martinez on Nov. 7 in Bridgeville after an incident involving his wife. Police say that domestic incident happened in front of their child.

He faces a number of charges including strangulation, unlawful imprisonment second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, malicious interference with emergency communications and menacing.

Martinez was taken into custody, processed and arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court. Police say he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $8,750 cash bond.

Police say Martinez has been employed as a Delaware State Trooper for 16 years. He remains suspended without pay and benefits from the Division as a result of a previous criminal investigation and charges from March 2014.
