Del. County, City to Reveal Development Strategies

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New Castle County and the city of Wilmington are planning to release new strategic plans for economic development.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that the county paid consultants $49,500 for its report, while Wilmington paid the same two firms $25,000 for its plan. The same companies crafted an economic development plan for Newark three years ago. They are Wadley-Donovan GrowthTech LLC of New Jersey and Garnet Consulting Services of Connecticut.

The consultants said the county and city need a marketing plan to combat the perception that Pennsylvania has better public schools, which hurts the county's ability to attract new residents.

County Councilman John Cartier says the report makes him think that trying to redevelop Claymont would be a good project for the county.
