DOVER, Del.- The Dover Police Department is releasing new photos in the search for a suspect wanted in connection with a home invasion and suspected arson.

Police said that just after 7 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 400 block of East Water Street for a reported house fire. Through further investigation, police said they discovered a 23-year-old man was inside the home when the fire started. Police said that man reported to officers that three black male suspects, ages 18-25, forced him inside the home and demanded money.

Police say when the victim did not give the men money, they tied the man up and set the home on fire. Investigators said the suspects then fled in a white four-door SUV with a sunroof and a luggage rack.

Police said the victim, who was not injured, was then able to escape the home.

According to police, the fire damage was contained to the kitchen area of the home, but the remainder of the home sustained smoke damage.  Authorities said a responding officer from the Dover Police Department attempted to climb a fence to access the back of the home to ensure everyone got out of the home, but was injured when he slipped and suffered a severe wound to his leg from the top of the fence post. Police say the officer was treated and released for the injury at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

The suspects were described as follows:

  • Suspect 1: Black male, 6-foot-3, 250 pounds and dressed all in black
  • Suspect 2: Black male, 5-foot-8, 220-240 pounds with a gray sweatshirt
  • Suspect 3: Black male, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds and wearing a green sweatshirt.

The Dover Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit and the City of Dover Fire Marshals Office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (302) 736-7111.
