DOVER, Del.- The Dover Police Department unveiled it's new medication return box, creating a safe and secure way for residents to dispose of medications.

The department unveiled the medication box on Nov. 12 at a press event. Police say the secured box is located in the Dover Police Department lobby and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to the Dover Police Department, the box was given to the department by the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators as part of a program to combat prescription drug abuse. Officials from the city, state and department attended the event and spoke of the importance of getting prescription drugs out of the wrong hands and out of medicine cabinets across the Dover area when no longer needed.

Police say the box allows for a safe and secure drop-off location where any citizen can anonymously drop unused medications for safe and proper disposal.
