Local Students Test Computer Programming Skills

Posted:
SALISBURY, Md. - Some of the brightest young local computer minds went head to head over the weekend putting their skills to the test.

More than 50 computer science students were hard at work on Saturday inside Salisbury University's Henson Science Hall as part of the school's third GullCode computer programing challenge.

Each team received a set of problems to solve in four hours using either JAVA or C++ computer programming languages.

Members of the winning team were Rachel Hollis of Silver Spring, MD; Charlie Sun of Salisbury; and Lucas Turpin of Millsboro, DE. They each earned $100 Visa gift cards. The second place team included Ryan Dillon of Eldersburg, MD; Richard Quackenbush of Pittsville; and Klaus Sexton of Huntingtown, MD. They each earned $50 Visa gift cards. Third place went to Ryan Mulligan, also of Huntingtown; Zach Johnson of Ellicott City, MD; and Tyler Chenoweth of Hampstead, MD. They each earned two Regal Cinema 16 Movie passes.

The event was sponsored by the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology and the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
