GOP Primary Challengers Hopeful in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Some Republican challengers are hoping the anti-incumbent mood that fueled a historic upset in Virginia politics this year will help them in GOP primary contests next year.

House Speaker William J. Howell and at least two Republican state senators are facing potential primary challengers.

Dave Brat pulled off a shocking victory against then-U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the June primary.

Amanda Chase, a former campaign aide to Brat, says voters are tired of "career politicians" and want "normal people" representing them.

Chase is planning a primary campaign against Sen. Steve Martin, who says he welcomes the challenge and that he has a long record of accomplishment to campaign on.
