Posted:

FRANKFORD, Del. – Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that left one person dead and the other in serious condition.

The incident happened around 3:20 p.m. on Nov. 19. Police say a 61-year-old male from Frankford was driving eastbound on Omar Road just west of Burbage Road.

According to police, the car went off the roadway as it entered a curve. Police say the car struck a large rock and a tree before spinning and coming to a stop.

The 61-year-old driver was not properly restrained and pronounced dead at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries, according to police.

Troopers say a 62-year-old female passenger, who was properly restrained, was initially transported by ambulance to Beebe Hospital before later being flown to Christiana Medical Center where she is currently admitted in serious condition.

The names of the driver and passenger are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Omar Road in the area of Burbage Road remained closed for about two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

According to Delaware State Police, alcohol may be a contributing factor in this case.
