DelDot Offers Travel Tips For Holiday Weekend

Posted:

DOVER, Del. – The Department of Transportation is warning motorists of increased traffic volumes expected on Delaware's roads Thanksgiving weekend.

DelDOT officials say planned lane closures on Delaware's major roadways, Route 1, I-95, and U.S. Route 202 will be suspended at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and will resume at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 30.

During that time, DelDOT's Transportation Management Center will monitor more than 5,500 miles of state-maintained roads around the clock. Staff will adjust computerized traffic signal systems in response to increased demand or incidents.

The tollbooths at the I-95 Newark Plaza, Route 1 Biddle's Corner Plaza and Route 1 Dover Plaza will have extra personnel to ease traffic congestion.

Motorists can adjust their routes or travel times by using the DelDOT app, which can be downloaded for free at the Apple and Google Play stores.

DART First State's statewide transit services, for both fixed route and paratransit service, will not operate on Thanksgiving Day. On Black Friday, DART First State fixed routes and paratransit service will operate on their regular schedules. SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line will operate on Thanksgiving Day with service to Claymont and Wilmington. The line will operate on the Holiday Schedule, which is the same as the normal weekend schedule.

A house is making its way into the bay near Fenwick Island and boaters warn against the dangers of debris in the water.
