Delawareans Receive Gift of Fire Safety

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. – Some Delawareans are safer in their homes today thanks to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors donated by Delmarva Power's Emergency Services Partnership.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal received 700 10-year, long life fire safety alarms. The City of Wilmington's Fire Department received 200 carbon monoxide alarms for residents who may not be able to afford them.

“It is an honor to continue our annual partnership with public safety officials and helping them achieve their fire safety goals by providing fire safety equipment, supporting their outreach and awareness efforts as well as educating the community on the extreme importance of overall fire safety,” said Glenn Moore, vice president of the Delmarva Power Region.

Wilmington's fire chief, Anthony S. Goode, reiterated the significance of having adequate fire safety measures in place.

“Proper smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are an important first step toward achieving fire safety in the home,” he said. “These lifesaving devices and proper household fire safety practices work in tandem to save lives.”

The Lowe's Home Improvement Center in the Brandywine Towne Center supplied the smoke alarms at a reduced cost to help support this effort. Since 2000, Delmarva Power has donated 20,150 regular smoke alarms, 1,042 special needs smoke alarms and 2,050 carbon monoxide alarms to fire safety officials in Delaware and Maryland.
