Delmarva Power Monitoring Developing Winter Weather

Posted:
NEWARK, Del. - With a winter storm hitting much of the northeast, power companies across the country are gearing up for one of the first big snow storms of the season. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Delaware and Maryland on Wednesday. While mostly rain is expected on Delmarva, some of the northern parts of the peninsula could see a little bit of accumulation.

Heavy, wet snow, ice and wind can bring tree limbs into contact with power lines to cause power outages. Heavy rain and saturated soil can allow trees to fall onto power lines and equipment to cause power outages. Outages can also occur due to drivers skidding into poles along slick roads.

With this first storm bringing Old Man Winter to the region, Delmarva Power is preparing to respond to potential outages during the winter season.

In anticipation of the inclement weather, Delmarva Power says it will have crews on standby, and the Call Center will be staffed to handle additional customer calls. In addition to more than 100 internal crews, Delmarva Power has hundreds of contractors already working on the system available to assist with restoration if needed.

Delmarva Power is urging their customers to prepare for potential outages and to stay clear of working crews and any wires hanging loose from poles or lying on the ground. If you see a downed power line, stay away from it. The power company says everyone should assume that all downed power lines are live and extremely dangerous.

Customers are asked to please report any outages and downed wires by calling 1-800-898-8042. Customers also may report outages through delmarva.com or our mobile app. It is important that customers report their outage and request a call back to verify their power has been restored.
