Va. Board OKs $4m for Airport Renovation Project

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Charlottesville Albemarle Airport plans to renovate and expand its passenger terminal.

The Virginia Aviation Board recently approved about $4 million in state funding for the project's construction portion. Work is expected to begin in January and be completed in 2016. The state had previously set aside $363,390 for design work.

Virginia Department of Aviation spokeswoman Cherry Evans says that the airport plans to ask the Federal Aviation Administration to allow it to implement a passenger facility charge. The revenue would be used to cover the remaining local share of the project's cost.

The project includes reconfiguring and expanding the security screening area and expanding passenger departure and seating areas.
