Cyber Monday Gets Mixed Reviews

Posted:
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - According to researchers at ComScore, US consumers are expected to spend nearly $16 billion shopping online this Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday is the Internet's answer to Black Friday. It's a day where online retailers highlight their biggest deals and offer free shipping or more. Favorite stores like Target, online megastore Amazon and even popular airlines feature discounts.

For one shopper visiting the Rehoboth Tanger Outlets, it's a great day to shop.

"Why not?" Alison Birnbaum said. "I mean its online if you can do it at work, go ahead."

But not everyone agreed with Birnbaum; like CEO of the Sussex County Association of Realtors, Rep. Ruth Briggs King (R-Georgetown). Many worry that having a day dedicated to shopping online can hurt productivity,

"So you can do that if you're taking your personal break or if at lunchtime you'd prefer to stay at your desk and log on," King explained. "Otherwise it's business as usual from their work stations."

Rehoboth resident Rachael Lewis works at a store in the outlet center, and she said she thinks Cyber Monday is a way to trick people into buying more than they usually would.

"It's definitely an impulse thing, I think get it now while it lasts, while we got it," she said. "But you'regoing toa get it again so don't rush on it, it'll be there later, you don't have to jump on it right away."

But for those that made it out Thursday, Friday and Saturday... Monday is more of the same.

"Same thing for Cyber Monday," Philadelphia resident Maia Ben-Shoshan said. "You can always find good deals, I mean it's a good time to shop."

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden released a statement regarding staying safe while shopping online and urged people to only give your credit card information to well-known, reputable companies. He also said if you notice fraud to contact his consumer protection unit.

Crabbing season is well underway, and that means hundreds of thousands of crab pots are in the Chesapeake Bay catching blue crabs. However, many of those pots can quickly become "ghost" pots, sinking to the bottom of the bay and taking millions of crabs with them. These ghost pots have been a problem in the bay for decades, diminishing the crab population, and potentially costing watermen millions of dollars.

    Historic Seaford Diner Torn Down

One of the last remaining 1950's diner cars on Delmarva is now nothing but rubble.

The Seaford Eagle Diner was ripped down Tuesday morning so the owners can re-build a new restaurant on site. Owner Serkan Darilmaz says the diner was in such bad shape that renovating it would've come at an astronomical cost.
