GW Parkway in Va. to Reopen Wednesday Morning

Posted:

McLEAN, Va. (AP) - Federal highway officials say a sinkhole on the George Washington Memorial Parkway will be repaired in time for Wednesday's morning commute.

The sinkhole led the southbound lanes of the roadway to be closed between Route 123 and Spout Run Parkway Tuesday morning.

The Federal Highway Administration said Tuesday afternoon that the sinkhole would be repaired by Tuesday night and that the parkway would reopen to traffic by 5 a.m.

The sinkhole was about 30 feet wide and 30 feet long. It closed off one of the major routes from Northern Virginia to downtown Washington and to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
