Dover Kicks Off Holiday Spirit with Annual Capital Holiday Celebration

Posted:

DOVER, Del.- We are 21 days away from Christmas. Dover is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Capital Holiday Celebration.

Kimberly Aigle is the co-owner of Suds Bar and Soap in downtown Dover. She's anticipating big business this holiday season.

"The last quarter for us is always the better season for us," explained Aigle.

She's excited about the crowds of people expected for Thursday's holiday celebration.

"I think it's great for them to come down," said Aigle. "I think it'll be even better after they enjoy the festivities that they can come in and visit the stores."

New businesses like Celebrity Style Vintage Boutique are also in the holiday spirit.

"I'm actually so excited because the turn out has been really for the past holiday season that we've been having," said Marcella Pigford, owner of Celebrity Style Vintage Boutique.

Last year all of the celebration took place in Loockerman Way Plaza. Back in September the city announced it will be moving back to its traditional home in front of City Hall.

"It's going to showcase our downtown area that we continue to revitalize and it's just going to bring everyone together in the holiday spirit," said Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen.

Some wondered how that would affect foot traffic coming in. But Mayor Christiansen says they are working to make sure everyone is involved.

"We're going to move to Loockerman Way and continue the celebration and eventually we hope to bring it all the way to the end of our downtown business district."

Business owners like Pigford don't seem too concerned about the new plans.

"It's going to be wonderful," said Pigford. "We're all working together and the publicity going out there, I think it's going to be fine so no worries at all."

Hoping it's a happy holiday for both onlookers in the streets and local business owners.
