Bowers Beach, DE- Delaware State Police are investigation a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred earlier this week near Bowers Beach.

Preliminary investigation shows that around 5:05 p.m. Wednesday on December 3, Shane T. Allaband, 19 of Dover was driving a pickup truck westbound on Bowers Beach Road just west of Bayview Road outside the town of Bowers Beach.  Brittany Ford, 16 of  Bowers Beach, was standing on the north side of the westbound lanes. Police say for unknown reasons, Ford jumped into the roadway in front of the truck.  Allaband attempted to swerve to the left to try to avoid striking the young female, but was unable and struck her with the front bumper throwing her onto the center of the roadway.

Brittany Ford was initially taken by EMS to Kent General Hospital and later transported to AI DuPont Hospital where she died from her injuries on Friday.

Allaband, as well as a 20 year old male and 16 year old female passenger, were all properly restrained, and uninjured in the crash.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
