Va. State Police Investigating Inmate Death

Posted:
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - The Virginia State Police is investigating the death of an inmate at the Rockingham County Jail in Harrisonburg.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office requested that state officials investigate the Sunday death of 44-year-old Calvin Douglas Carnette Jr. of Harrisonburg.

Officials say Carnette was brought into the jail Friday night on an arrest warrant for assault and battery. On Sunday morning he was found unresponsive in his cell by jail staff and was subsequently pronounced dead.

Carnette's body has been transported to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke. At this time, authorities say that investigators don't suspect foul play.
