Fire Under Investigation in Bridgeville


BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office is investigating a fire that damaged an abandoned dwelling Wednesday night in Bridgeville.

The fire, reported at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday, occurred on Sussex Highway north of Newton Road. According to the Fire Marshal's office, the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Greenwood and Farmington Volunteer Fire Companies, extinguished the flames. The structure was reported as being abandoned for many years and was described to be in severe collapsed condition prior to the fire.

The Fire Marshal's office said there were no working smoke detectors in the structure and no reported injuries occurred during the incident. According to the Fire Marshal's office, a white male and female couple was last seen on the property on Tuesday, December 9th. Anyone with information about these people is asked to call the Office of the State Fire Marshal at (302) 856-5600.

The investigation continues while deputy fire marshals work to determine the origin and cause of this fire.
