Trappe Woman Convicted on Nine Counts of Child Abuse

TRAPPE, Md.- A Talbot County woman is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of nine counts of child abuse.

56-year-old Debra Mary Cussen was convicted of abusing two boys and assaulting a third, according to Assistant State's Attorney Ellen Grunden.

Grunden said a 13-year-old boy was the assault victim when Cussen was trying to scare the boy. Grunden also said Cussen pulled a four-year-old's hair when he refused to stand in the corner. The third boy, age 10, had his hair pulled, face slapped and was held up by his throat until he had trouble breathing, all at Cussen's hands, according to the assistant state's attorney.

Grunden said in all, Cussen was charged with five second-degree assault charges, three second-degree child abuse charges, and one reckless endangerment charge. Cussen will be sentenced on December 22nd in Talbot county.
