Dec. 15th: The Busiest Shipping Day of the Year

Posted:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - December 15th is the busiest shipping day of the year, as people order and send packages to loved ones in time for Christmas.

According to postal workers, ten days before Christmas is just enough to get a parcel in time for Christmas with standard shipping rates. Leslie Beall of Lewes used UPS today, and did not realize it was going to be so busy.

"I didn't expect it," she said. "I saw a lot of people that tried to come in the door and just turned away and go out but it went quickly."

Tami Davidson is the Rehoboth Beach Post Master. She said the rush happens every year, and has increased with the growth of online shopping.

"December 15th is always our busiest day with people just wanting to get everything out to their loved ones, the shopping that's taking place," she explained. "Cyber Monday was last Monday so it's just a heavy heavy shipping day."

Davidson also said the Post Office is double staffed, and very much prepared.

"It is crazy, we have lines going out the door," she said. "We get our customers in and out give minutes or less."

According to USPS, they expect to mail a record 640 million pieces of mail this Monday.
