Action Taken on Old Mill Road Proposals

Posted:

LEWES, De. - County Council discussed two proposals for the Old Mill Road area in Lewes. Both proposals have ignited vocal testimony from neighbors, many of whom are against the sites.

The first application, located at 16542 Old Mill Road, was for the construction of a self-storage facility. Following Planning and Zoning suggestions, this proposal was denied by council in a unanimous vote.

The second application is for a small Vet office located at a residential home at 16403 Old Mill Road in Lewes. The applicant, Christina Abramowicz is looking to set up a hollistic Vet Office, focusing on eastern medicines like acupuncture and herbal medications.

By a vote of 3 to 2, the council voted to defer on the vote so that the council can do more research. The Planning and Zoning Commission had previously suggested a denial of the conditional use application.

WBOC caught up with Abramowicz, after the vote. She said that in her eyes, this business would be low impact.

"If I see six animals in a day - that's a big day for me," she said. "So you know - six cars coming and going in a day with spaced out appointments is really great. And it's not a very big impact at all."

Despite here reassurances, many neighbors are concerned about the "commercial intrusion" of the residential area.
