Richmond Buildings Belonging to Imprisoned Developer Sold

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - More than two dozen buildings in Richmond owned by a former developer have been sold at auction.

Motley's Auction & Realty Group president said the two bidders submitted winning bids during Thursday's auction. One bidder will pay $30.5 million for 23 buildings and the other will pay more than $6 million for six buildings.

Motley says he can't identify the bidders.

The buildings were owned by 53-year-old Billy Gene Jefferson Jr. Jefferson is serving a 20-year prison sentence for a tax credit scheme and plotting to flee the country. He has been ordered to pay nearly $9.7 million in restitution to victims of the scheme.

Jefferson's attorney, John S. Martin, tells the newspaper that the liquidation and restitution process is continuing.
