Police Shoot at Md. Bank Robbery Suspect

Lamar Mills

GAMBRILLS, Md. (AP)- Anne Arundel County Police say they shot at a bank robbery suspect after he drove his car toward officers and hit a car that struck a sergeant.

Police say the man robbed the Navy Federal Credit Union in Odenton at gunpoint Monday evening.

Police responding to the scene saturated the area and found the suspect sitting in a car in Gambrills. They say he initially responded to officer commands but then hit the gas pedal and drove toward several officers. That's when officers opened fire at the suspect, who hit a police car, which in turned struck a police sergeant.

Police were then able to arrest the man, 28-year-old Lamar Mills of Easton, on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery. No attorney is listed for him in court records.

The police sergeant hit by the patrol car was taken to another hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two other officers suffered minor injuries and were treated and released at local hospitals, police said.
