Charges Dropped Against Parents of Autistic Twins

Posted:

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP)- Montgomery County prosecutors have dropped abuse and false imprisonment charges against the parents of autistic twin men who were allegedly kept locked up at night in a basement room with no lights or furniture.

The cases against 57-year-old John Land and 60-year-old Janice Land were closed Monday in district court in Rockville. Prosecutors didn't immediately return telephone calls and emails Tuesday from The Associated Press seeking more information.

John Land's attorney Maura Lynch declined to comment, saying she hadn't seen the paperwork.

Janice Land's public defender didn't immediately return a telephone call from the AP.

The Lands were charged in July. Police say the parents told them the 22-year-old twins were non-verbal and had run away in the past, so they were kept locked in the room during nighttime hours.
