MSP Investigating Body Found Along Highway Near Frederick

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Hagerstown woman whose body was found along U.S. 40 several miles west of Frederick.

Sgt. Marc Black identified the victim as 20-year-old Malicia Smith. He says her body was spotted by passing motorists who called 911 at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Black says an autopsy will determine how she died.

The body was found on the side of the highway west of Ridge Road. The location is about 10 miles from the site of another, unsolved homicide that occurred Monday afternoon.

Black says police don't know if the deaths are related.

State police are still investigating the death on Monday of 67-year-old Lillie Morris. She was found fatally injured in the front yard of her home near Burkittsville.
