Family Prepares for Playoff Face off

Posted:

MILLSBORO, De. - In one home in Sussex County, a family is split over the color of their jerseys.

"It's game on," Neil Dickerson said. "We've had so many times where we don't talk after the game."

The conflict is all over one important fact. Neil bleeds purple, and his wife Debra waves the terrible towel. And as the Ravens-Steelers playoff game nears, the home is in full "trash talk" mode.

There are two blankets, representing each team sitting on the couch, logos from both squads lining the walls, and of course the couple is decked up in the two opposing colors.

"Steelers are going to win," Debra said. "Home field advantage. No doubt about it."

"Ngata is coming back," Neil shot back. "He's going to finish what he started with Ben last time."

The two are typically a loving couple, but come game time, all bets are off the table. For this playoff matchup, the couple is driving all the way to Pittsburgh to see the game in person. Neil said that he wouldn't have it any other way.

"It's a unique thin in our household," he said. "During the football season no doubt. It's one side of the sofa for me - and the other side of the sofa for her."

Then there's the wildcard of the family. Their dog - Doogie - roamed the house Friday evening in Ravens attire. However Debra of course argues that this is her husband's doing, saying the K9 is of course a Steeler's fan at heart.

This year the Dickerson family is taking it up a notch as well. If the Ravens win, then Debra needs to wear the Raven's jersey for the next post-season. Meanwhile, if the Steelers are victorious, Neil will have to throw on the yellow attire.

"This is the most competition we've ever had," he said.

Regardless of who wins the contest, one thing is clear: It will be a quiet drive home.
