Salisbury Man Charged with Assaulting Step-Son

Posted:
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says a man has been charged with assaulting his stepson.

Police say a deputy responded at about 1:46 a.m. Wednesday to a home on Lavale Terrace in Salisbury for a report of a fight. After police arrived, they say they learned that  32-year-old Anvar Kassim and the boy were in an altercation that became physical. Police say Kassim assaulted the boy after becoming upset that the boy was walking up and down stairs.

Police say Kassim reportedly began assaulting his step-son and at one point brandished a three-foot-long metal rod while grabbing his step-son around the neck.

Kassim is charged with first- and second-degree assault and child abuse.

Police say the deputy placed Kassim under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner.

Kassim has been released on $50,000 bond.
