Bracing for Frigid Temperatures

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury only saw some flurries on Tuesday, unlike other parts of the peninsula that got some snow.  However, it was impossible to escape the frigid temperatures that are only going to get colder as the week goes on.

WBOC spoke with William Todd, and Emergency Room Physician at Peninsula Regional Medical Center on Tuesday about the dangers the cold weather can bring.

"Limit outdoor exposure, although I know a lot of people have outdoor jobs.  If you are developing any early signs of hypothermia which would be stopping, shivering, a time period where you are starting to not think as clearly, those are the keys signs that you need to protect yourself and get into a warmer environment," said Todd.

Early signs of frostbite include a tingling sensation in your extremities.  Todd said the tip of your nose can be particularly susceptible to frostbite.  But Todd said avoiding a trip to the emergency room can be easily avoided.

"Common sense and due diligence of protecting yourself is key."
