Posted:
SALISBURY, MD - A princess Anne man was arrested on Tuesday on drugs and weapons charges after a traffic stop by a Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy. 31-year old Joshua Williams was pulled over for speeding on West Road.

After approaching the car, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle.

Williams was asked to get out of the car. As the deputy began to search the vehicle, Williams began moving away from

in what appeared an attempt to flee. The deputy attempted to grab a hold of Williams' arm, and a struggle ensued with the

as the deputy had to put Williams into handcuffs.

Upon engaging in a search of Williams' vehicle the deputy located a substantial amount of what was identified as marijuana. Some of the marijuana was located in a Maxwell Coffee can with a false bottom, Clorox and Comet containers that had hidden compartments and a Monster Energy Drink that concealed a hidden compartment when the top came off. The deputy also recovered what was identified as heroin in the vehicle.

Further search revealed a loaded Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun. It was discovered that Williams was prohibited from possessing a handgun due to a previous criminal conviction. This is the second incident this week where a deputy has recovered an illegally possessed loaded handgun from a subject in Wicomico County.

Following an initial appearance, Williams was detained without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
He is charged with possession of Marijuana and Heroin with the Intent to Distribute, Resisting Arrest, Handgun in Vehicle, Possession of a Handgun by a Prohibited Person, and Possession of a

Firearm During a Drug Trafficking Crime
