Parents Won't Face Charges in Death of Va. Girl Left in Van

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against the parents of a Roanoke girl who died after being left in a van.

Roanoke Commonwealth's Attorney Donald Caldwell tells media outlets there's no indication the incident was intentional.

Caldwell says the father and several other children got out of the van. The father didn't realize that the 2-year-girl was still in the vehicle.

The incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2014. Police have said the girl was in the van for hours before she was found. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

Caldwell says an autopsy determined the girl died from hyperthermia.
