HOPETON, Va.- The Accomack County Sheriff's Office says one person has been arrested and two others are wanted for allegedly stealing a dog from the front yard of a family's home in Hopeton, a small community near the town of Parksley.

Sheriff Todd Godwin said his office got a call shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday from a passerby who observed a dog being loaded into a U-Haul truck that was parked on the side of Matthews Road. The sheriff when the passerby confronted the U-Haul's occupants, they took off with the dog.

Law enforcement agencies on the Eastern Shore were provided a description of the vehicle and its occupants, and the U-Haul was subsequently located and stopped at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel were the sheriff said interviews with the occupants were conducted.

Godwin said the investigation into this incident led to warrants being issued against 45-year-old Charlene S. Boyajian of Virginia Beach, 39-year-old Bettina Cuce Rodriguez of Virginia Beach and 45-year-old Gordon A. Shell of Utica, Mich.

Boyajian was arrested by the Virginia Beach Police Department on Jan. 14 and charged with larceny of a dog. She was released on personal recognizance.

Rodriguez and Shell are each wanted on a charge of larceny of a dog. The dog has not been located, Godwin said.

The investigation into this incident is continuing and additional arrests are possible, Godwin said. Anyone with information about this or any other incident is asked to contact the Accomack County Sheriff's Office at (757) 787-1131 or (757) 824-8666.
