MILFORD, Del. - A Milford man was arrested Friday in connection with 15 residential burglaries throughout the city of Milford, according to authorities.

Police say 27-year-old Xavier Rivera was charged with over forty charges including multiple counts each of second degree burglary, second degree attempted burglary, theft of $1,500 or greater, theft under $1,500, attempted theft under $1,500 and criminal mischief under $1,000.

Police say an investigation reveal the burglaries occurred from December 5 through January 7 in Milford. They say Rivera broke into homes and removed victims' personal property, Christmas gifts, money and other items. On several occasions, police say Rivera entered homes while the occupants were at home sleeping or awake in a different room.

On January 7, police say officers attempted to make contact with Rivera at a home located at Valley Run Apartments. They say however, Rivera refused to leave the home for detectives and jumped out of a third story window in an attempt to flee police. As a result, Rivera suffered serious injuries to his legs and was transported to Milford Bayhealth Hospital by ambulance.

On Friday, Rivera was released from the hospital and was taken into custody by detectives, according to police.

Rivera was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $160,000 secured bond.
