DOVER, Del.- The first of many snowflakes have begun to fall in Delaware on Wednesday afternoon, and crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation are beginning to apply salt to the roads and bridges.

Officials said there was already some residual salt on Delaware's roads, left over from Sunday's ice event, so pre-treating the roads with brine was not necessary.

Instead, DelDOT crews spent Wednesday morning preparing their trucks, making any repairs, and loading up. Vehicles were then pre-positioned, so crews can move quickly when needed.

When the snow reaches an inch or more in depth, plowing will start on major arteries.

DelDOT expects crews will be working through the night as this winter storm passes through Delaware.

Motorists are urged to avoid driving, but if they must drive, please drive carefully, and give the DelDOT trucks a great deal of extra room.
