Road Crews Prepare for Winter Storm in Mid-Atlantic

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Road crews are preparing to treat city streets and highways as winter weather approaches the mid-Atlantic region.

Forecasters expect snow will be heaviest in western Maryland and to the north on Saturday.

The Maryland State Highway Administration is warning motorists that travel may become hazardous. The agency says it's preparing for the storms with salt and plows to treat the roads.

The Maryland Transit Administration says it is working to keep buses, trains and cars moving this weekend during the winter weather.

District of Columbia officials canceled a deployment of snow trucks Friday because the forecast calls for rain. But DC plans to deploy snow trucks on Sunday night for another winter storm that could affect the commute early Monday.
