Gas Prices Fall Below $2 on Delmarva

Posted:

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Gas prices continue to fall for a record 121 days in a row with the national average gas price projected to fall below two dollars before January is over, according to a AAA report.

It's been six years since Americans were paying less than $2 per gallon, said AAA.

Some economists said the low fuel prices not only help put money back into the pockets of consumers, but they also help boost the economy.

From gas stations in Greenwood advertising $2.09 per gallon to a staggering $1.99 in Bridgeville, drivers were lining up to fill up at the best prices Saturday afternoon.

On Bridgeville's main street, a small Liberty gas station was packed with people, some traveling from miles away just for the bargain prices.

"It's cheaper," said Lavonne Massey a Maryland mother of three. "I carry my kids back and forth from school everyday in Preston. I come here once a week to fill up."

And the drive is well worth it, even for the Bridgeville locals.

"This truck right here usually it costs me like 70-something bucks," said Garrett Johnson who drives a 4x4 pickup truck. "Today it only cost me $31."

When it comes to saving, some drivers in Sussex County can use all the help they can get.

"When we calculated between our son going to college in Dover and the two kids in school, we're saving about $197 a month to $200," said Massey.

Craig Pleasants is saving nearly the same amount in gas money.

"At a $1.99, we're going to be pushing to $200 a month -- savings!"

The Department of Energy says this year Americans can expect to save $750 in gas money.
