Mid-Shore Prepares For Snowstorm

Posted:
CAMBRIDGE, Md.- A snow day means play time when you're a kid.  But if you are driving a tow truck or plow, or working at a grocery store, it can be a pretty crazy day at the office.

At Jesse Jr's & Sons towing in Cambridge, the prep work for this storm started days ago.

"We started Friday getting some of our equipment ready, moving things around.  Depending on where the jetstream takes this storm, could get us quite a bit of snow," said owner Jeffery Hurley.

Hurley's team is ready to keep the roads clear for ambulances and plows. But they need your help.

"The roads are icy, snowy, sleety," said Hurley, "It's really easy to lose control and hit into the tow operator's tow truck, emergency vehicles; so we'd like to remind everyone to please move over and give everyone safe room to work."

As for the roads, at least in the Cambridge area, the public works department says crews are ready to go.

"Just bought 350 tons of salt back in October. We've only used four or five tons so far, so we have plenty of salt on hand. Hopefully if we're ready, we'll get nothing and we can empty it all out of the trucks tomorrow," said public works director Odie Wheeler.

And throughout town, bread and milk is becoming hard to find. Samantha Blake, who works at Pizza Ziya, said when the snow hits, people also get a different kind of bread.

"When it snows, all that really happens is more people order from the store than come in. And our drivers are going to have a lovely time tomorrow," said Blake.

But she is more than confident their drivers are up to the challenge.
