Dover Woman Arrested After Attempted Robbery at Edible Arrangements

DOVER, Del. – A Dover woman is behind bars after police say she attempted to rob a business in the Gateway South Shopping Center Wednesday afternoon.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers were dispatched to Edible Arrangements at around 12:05 for a report of an attempted robbery.

Investigation revealed a female – later identified as Alaya A. McDonald, 21 of Dover – entered the store and made contact with a 26-year-old female employee, police said. The employee told troopers McDonald passed her a note implying that she had a gun and demanded money. According to police, the employee told McDonald she had no money, and McDonald left the store and walked east on East Lebanon Road.

With the help of the manager of the Best Western Galaxy Inn's, where the suspect was staying, police were able to locate and identify McDonald as the would-be robber.

Police charged her with robbery and committed her to the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on $5,000 cash bond.
