Defense Information School Celebrates 50 Years of Training

Posted:

FORT MEADE, Md. - The Defense Information School celebrated 50 years of training more than 100,000 Department of Defense communicators and public information officers from the U.S. and 79 allied nations on Jan. 30, at Fort Meade, Md.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, Ray Shepherd, Defense Media Activity director, and DINFOS Commandant Col. Jeremy Martin signed a proclamation and then participated in a ceremony recognizing the valor of service men and women who have communicated for a half century about combat and humanitarian operations on every continent across the globe.

"The role DINFOS plays in educating global communicators is a crucial one," Martin said. "We teach public affairs professionals to communicate in war and in peace to bring accountability and transparency to the American people. We will continue this tradition of excellence by incorporating 21st Century technology while remaining true to our motto, 'Strength through Truth."

Participation in this event represents Hogan's first official visit to a military installation since being elected governor.
