Baltimore Mayor Calls for Tougher Misconduct Police for Police Officers

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wants to institute tougher misconduct penalties for city police officers.

Rawlings-Blake said at a news conference on Monday that she plans to introduce a package of legislation that would create a new felony law of misconduct that could include any misdemeanor that carries a sentence of one year or more in prison, including second-degree assault. The legislation would give the police commissioner authority to suspend any officer who commits such a misdemeanor without pay, and without a trial board review.

Rawlings Blake said the language of the legislation is still being drafted, and will be introduced in the 2015 Maryland General Assembly Session.
