CHESWOLD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a fiery single-vehicle crash near Cheswold that took the life of a Dover man early Wednesday morning.

Troopers said that at around 2:30 a.m., 54-year-old Wilson E. Seeney was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Pearson's Corner Road just north of Dinah's Corner Road at a high rate of speed. Police said Seeney reached a curve, but was going too fast so his right-side tires went off the roadway causing the vehicle to begin to spin.

Troopers said the truck then crossed both lanes and drove off the east side of the roadway and struck a group of mailboxes and a telephone pole before crashing into a house on Pearson's Corner Road.

Police said the vehicle then caught fire, trapping Seeney inside and also catching a portion of the home. Cheswold Fire Company responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Wilson Seeney, the sole occupant of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said two adults, who were inside the home at the time of the crash and subsequent fire, were not injured.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident.  Pearson's Corner Road, between Dinah's Corner and Blue Heron roads, was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
