Boy Recovering From Fall into Icy Pond That Killed Friend

Posted:

LANDSDOWNE, Md. (AP)- The mother of one of four boys who fell through an icy Maryland pond says her son is starting to make a miraculous recovery.

Twelve-year-old Chive Omar Benjamin remains hospitalized Thursday, tubes in his nose and neck. But doctors are hoping to take those out soon, and Chive's mother says he's starting to get better.

Lincola Benjamin has been at her son's bedside since he, his brother and their two friends fell through the pond at a park in Lansdowne on Jan. 25. One of the Chive's friends, 13-year-old Kyron Aikens, died after spending more than an hour at the bottom of the pond.

Benjamin says she hasn't yet told Chive about Kyron's death, saying doctors fear it could set his recovery back.

Kyron's funeral is set for Friday.
